Minister Naledi Pandor visited iThemba LABS during February 2010. The aim of her vist was to familiarise herself with the research activities within the organisation.

Unraveling mysteries
Experimental research aims at either providing data to develop new theoretical
models, or it provides data to test existing models thereby extending our
understanding of physical phenomena.

iThemba Labs, Faure, Western Cape iThemba Labs, Gauteng

The iThemba Laboratory for Accelerator-Based Sciences is a group of multi-disciplinary research laboratories administered by the National Research Foundation. Based at two sites in Western Cape and Gauteng, these provide facilities for:

  • Basic and applied research using particle beams
  • Particle radiotherapy for the treatment of cancer
  • The supply of accelerator-produced radioactive
    isotopes for nuclear medicine and research
